FYFB ORGANIZES FALL FOOD DRIVE & FUNDRAISER

Food Bank to collect donations at local grocery stores

Toronto, ON (October 5, 2006) The Fort York Food Bank (FYFB), an independent agency of Daily Bread Food Bank, plans to collect donations of food and money at grocery stores in its neighbourhood on several Saturdays between October and December. The much-needed donations will go towards the operations of the Food Bank.

"People in Toronto are hungry year-round but the situation can become urgent around the holidays," said Asher Lai, FYFB's fundraising committee co-chair. "We hope to raise much-needed funds that will help to keep the heat on at FYFB through the winter."

Locations for the food and fundraising drive have yet to be determined. FYFB's service area covers neighbourhoods bounded by Yonge (to the east), Dovercourt (to the west), Bloor (to the North) and the Lake Ontario to the South.

If you're interested in volunteering or would like to make a donation, you can do so in person at 797 Dundas Street West or online at www.fyfb.com (follow the links to CanadaHelps.com).

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
