Food Bank Bowls Over Previous Record with Donations of More Than $12,000

Toronto, ON. The Fort York Food Bank (FYFB), an independent agency of Daily Bread Food Bank, held its fourth annual Bowlathon at Newtonbrook Bowlerama and more than $12,000 was raised through the event. The much-needed donations will go towards the delivery of programs that help people in need in downtown Toronto.

"The Bowlathon is such a fun event for everyone involved and raises critical funding to support our programs at FYFB," said Bowlathon Chair Devi Arasanayagam. "We can't thank enough the volunteers who work tirelessly to raise pledges and the friends, colleagues and families who support the bowlers".

This year's Bowlathon saw number of corporate teams returning for a second year including Fabulous Savings, CLASP (the Community and Legal Aid Services Program at the Osgoode Hall Law School at York University), Ernst and Young, Ross McBride and Porter Novelli as well as new teams from HSBC, Hicks Morley, Blakes and Lerners.

"We want to thank Lora Patton from CLASP for once again organizing five teams of students, alumni and staff who set the pace in raising more than $3,200 toward our goal," said Devi. "CLASP's ongoing support of FYFB and the Bowlathon is truly inspirational." Lora's team the "Gutter Gods" won the challenge trophy for the top CLASP fundraising team.

Other trophy winners included the "Alley Cats" captained by Gillian Owen who received the trophy for top fundraising team raising more than $1,700.

Long time FYFB supporters System Architects were the lead corporate sponsor for the event.

FYFB thanks George and everyone at Bowlerama Newtonbrook for their continuing support of this important event.

The last word went to Fiona Yeung who once again organized two teams from Fabulous Savings and had the top Male Bowler Jesse Wallace. "We had lots of fun, especially Jesse, who found his true calling."

Donations are still urgently needed and can be made in person at 797 Dundas Street West or online at www.fyfb.com.

About the Fort York Food Bank

FYFB is a multi-service agency focused on reconnecting people with our community. We do this by working with partners who share our vision to: feed the hungry by providing the basic nutritional requirements to individuals and families in need; and, help people get on track by providing counselling, training and advocacy to help people find jobs, safe housing and appropriate social/community programs.

FYFB was founded in February 1998 as an independent agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank Foundation of Toronto. FYFB is a registered charitable organization -- number 867147464 RR0001. FYFB is governed and managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are elected by our membership at our AGM.

FYFB originally focused on providing emergency food supplies, but to meet the economic and social needs of the most vulnerable people within our community and resolve our clients' underlying issues, FYFB's programming has grown to an integrated set of services to prevent homelessness, eliminate hunger and provide a safe environment for connecting with our community.
