Welcome to the summer edition of FYFB Connects.
Welcome to the summer edition of FYFB Connects. We hope you’re continuing to enjoy our e-newsletter and, as always, invite your feedback. Connects will be taking a summer break, but we’ll be back in September, just in time for the Queen West Art Crawl and the Waterfront Marathon events.
We’ve been seeing unprecedented demand at FYFB over the last few months. Through the generous support of friends like you, we're working hard to meet these increased needs.
We thank the many volunteers who work tirelessly to deliver our programs and invite new friends to join us in delivering the food, counselling and advocacy programs that make an important difference in the lives of those in need within our community.
If you are interested in volunteering, check out our Volunteer page to find out the many ways you can help.
We wish everyone a very enjoyable summer and we look forward to seeing you at FYFB soon.
What's Happening @ FYFB
FYFB's third annual bowl-a-thon was a striking success. With donations of more than $11,000, it was the most successful yet.
Sponsors of this year's bowl-a-thon included Cadillac Fairview, Dominion, Friends, Newtonbrook Bowlerama, Sherwood Copy, Sports Clubs of Canada, TD Financial Group, Tresses and Victoria Scholars Men's Choral Ensemble.
Volunteer Profile - The Lunch Sisters
Imagine making Thanksgiving dinner every other Saturday. That's exactly what sisters Shawna McPeek and Paula Quinn do at FYFB. Find out how they do it here.
Walk for Values
A big 'thank you' to the Walk for Values for this year's fantastic donation of food. The Walk raises pledges of virtuous behaviour in addition to lots of food for FYFB.
The Mabin School Donates Food
FYFB thanks The Mabin School for donating extra food supplies from their inaugural "Mabin Cares" event that saw more than 350 students, parents, family members, faculty and staff come together for a day of community service.
Former FYFB volunteer and Holiday Open House Chair, Jennifer Mitchell, wrote in to tell us her thoughts on how far FYFB has come and how much she enjoys FYFB Connects.
Again this year FYFB shut down for a major clean-up. As always the volunteers did a fantastic job making the food bank a more inviting place for our clients. Stop by and see their great work!
The Waterfront Marathon is coming up in September so if you're planning to run for FYFB, let us know!
The Queen West Art Crawl is coming up in September too and FYFB will be there again through the generous support of Artscape. We're looking for donated paintings to sell/auction off at our tent. If you know an artist who'd like to help, please contact Shannon Puddister
