FYFB Hearts Commuters

Early in the morning of March 23rd more than 50 volunteers poured into 10 downtown subway stations to collect change from commuters on the TTC. In all, nearly $13,000 was raised to help FYFB feed the hungry.

Corporate volunteer teams were on hand from Thornmark Asset Management Inc. (Osgoode Station) and Porter Novelli Canada (Yonge/Bloor), as well as many of Toronto's leading law firms, including Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (St. Patrick), Goodmans LLP (King), Heenan Blaikie LLP (Dundas), Lerners LLP (Queen's Park), McCarthy Tétrault LLP (St. Andrew), Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP (Union) and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP. For the second year in a row, Osler Hoskin & Harcourt LLP raised the most money of any participating law firm, raising just over $2,000 in the event.

Christina Beaudoin, Director, Student Programs at Osler, noted, "We are very proud of our group of student volunteers and are so pleased that their efforts will make a difference to so many in need of FYFB's services during these trying times."

Winter Relief Fund

The winter months can be tough for clients who live on an average of $2.56 a day after they pay their housing costs, especially when you factor in an increased cost of heating during Toronto's winter. Thank goodness for the early spring! This year our Winter Relief Fund was led by board members Susan McNerney and Luke Pollard and more than $10,000 was raised.

Strike Out Hunger

Are you ready to bowl? FYFB's Strike Out Hunger Bowlathon is scheduled for Thursday, June 17. It's a fun evening out that helps to fund our many programs. Round up friends to form a team of five, raise $100 each and you can do good for the community and have fun at the same time! You might even win a trophy!

FYFB's financial year closed on March 31, 2010 and Ravi Sreedharan, board president, has prepared a year in review and the outlook for FYFB in financial year 2011.
