What's Happening @ FYFB

Happy Holidays from FYFB

It is with great appreciation that I write to thank you for your support over the past year. As the needs of our community have grown in this persistent economic downturn, so too has your support for the Fort York Food Bank.

We've seen a 45 percent increase in clients over the past two years. In any given month almost 1,700 of our neighbours are now visiting us. Thanks to friends like you we've managed to keep pace with the increased demand. With your help and the contributions from all our amazing volunteers and partners, we have been able to ensure that people living in need in downtown Toronto have the groceries, hot meals, counselling and support they need to keep connected with our community.

As you will read in the Charity Intelligence story, we're very careful to use the funds you give us wisely. As an example, with your support, we implemented an important Food Purchase Fund this past year. But the challenge of keeping pace with demand is not easy. We need your continued support of our programs so that we can ensure our clients, including hundreds of children, have a merry holiday season.

On behalf of the entire FYFB family, I thank you for your continued support and wish you a safe, happy and healthy holiday season and a peaceful new year.

Ravi Sreedharan,
FYFB President

Holiday Open House and Volunteer Recognition Night

FYFB once again opened its doors for our annual Holiday Open House to thank the many volunteers and donors who make the work we do at FYFB possible. Sonny Gajadhar and the FYFB kitchen volunteers prepared a fabulous buffet for guests. Special thanks to Devi Arasanayagam who led the organizing for this year's event, ACE Canada for their help getting FYFB ready for our annual holiday party, Taylor, Kelvin & Adam from UofT's Urban Studies program for helping with the cooking and serving, Elizabeth DeSousa & Trudy Couture for preparing the dessert table and Jude, Jamie, Sandy, Gorman, Gary, Emily and Roy & Marlene Rodriguez for their prep work and clean-up after the event. A highlight of the evening was the recognition of almost 50 volunteers with certificates prepared by Ashley Mikitzel and signed by MPP Rosario Marchese. And a big thank you to Margaret Cantwell and Mike Schoonheyt for their tremendous efforts in helping create such a welcoming event.

Businesses Giving Back

Every year we're grateful for the organizations who make financial contributions and send teams of dedicated employees to volunteer at FYFB. They help in the kitchen, they prepare hampers, they sort food and, best of all, they show our clients and year-round volunteers that FYFB is an important part of the community. We can't say enough to thank you for your support. From long time partners like Franklin Templeton Investments to new supporters like UPS, your support makes a big difference.
