What's Happening @ FYFBHappy Holidays from FYFBIt is my great pleasure to thank you for your support throughout 2011. With approximately 30,000 hours of voluntary service and donations exceeding $150,000 over the past year, the Fort York Food Bank has been able to keep pace with the needs of people living in poverty in our community. This effort has not been without moments of difficulty. During the summer months we had to cut back on our food fund as our cash flows fell short of demand. Over the past two years, we have seen a 22 percent increase in the clients we work with and a corresponding increase in the volume of food we require. However, thanks to friends like you, we were able to weather this difficult period and continue to ensure all our clients receive the nutritionally balanced grocery baskets, hot meals and counselling they need to keep connected with our community. With your support, we're helping our clients prepare more that 27,000 meals at home each month. At the same time, we continue to focus on using the funds you give us wisely. More than 95% of the money we raise goes directly to program delivery. We continue to put our performance reports and audited financial statements on our website, so you can monitor how your contributions make an impact in the community. At the end of the day, we cannot do what we do without you. Finally, we are in the middle of our annual holiday fund appeal. I hope that you will consider a contribution so that we can continue to effectively assist our clients, including hundreds of children. On behalf of the entire FYFB family, I thank you for your continued support and wish you a safe, happy and healthy holiday season as well as a peaceful new year. Ravi Sreedharan, Holiday Open House and Volunteer Recognition NightThe annual Holiday Open House and Volunteer Recognition Night will be held on Wednesday, December 7 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at FYFB. With almost 30,000 hours of voluntary service and $150,000 in financial donations over the past year, the Open House is our special opportunity to thank the amazing volunteers, donors and other partners who help FYFB reconnect people with our community. Support the Annual Holiday Fund AppealIf you have already generously donated to help families in need during the holidays, we thank you. You are helping to ensure we'll meet the rising demand for our services at this challenging time of year.
With hundreds of children in our community relying on FYFB each month for basic food supplies, the stress on families who want to create positive memories for their kids at this special time of year is enormous. Your support will help create positive holiday memories for these families during the holidays. Businesses Giving BackEvery year we're grateful for the dozens of organizations who make financial contributions and send teams of dedicated employees to volunteer at FYFB. They help in the kitchen, they prepare food baskets, they sort food and, best of all, they show our clients and year-round volunteers that FYFB is an important part of the community. We can't say enough to thank you for your support and the difference that you make. We will be posting pictures and recognizing some of these organizations in our next FYFB Connects newsletter.
