Volunteer Profile

Luke Pollard
FYFB Volunteer

What is your role as an FYFB volunteer director?

As a general member of the board, my role is to support various fundraising and marketing activities of FYFB and to contribute to discussion at board meetings with respect to strategic direction and operational performance of the food bank.

How has volunteering with FYFB impacted you?

It has made me realize just how many people there are in Toronto who need assistance. It has made me realize just how lucky I am.

What experience from volunteering with FYFB will always stick with you?

Two things. First, the sincere generosity of people who attend events where we are collecting donations for FYFB; most people seem grateful there are organizations like FYFB out there to help people. Second, it is being at the food bank itself, especially on a Saturday, when the place is really busy with people either receiving a hot prepared meal or collecting a food hamper for their family.

Why should others consider getting involved with FYFB?

Because food is a basic necessity, the government cannot solve this problem, and there is intense need amongst those who have the least chance of providing for themselves and their families. Plus it is extremely easy to support FYFB either by dropping food off at our location or going on-line and making a regular cash donation by credit card.

Volunteer orientation sessions are held at 2:00pm on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. Click here to register online or drop by the Food Bank for more information.
